ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hennepin County prosecutors on Wednesday charged a Minnesota state senator with seeking sex from someone he believed was a minor.

Sen. Justin Eichorn, R-Grand Rapids, thought he was meeting with a 16-year-old girl who turned out to be a city police detective, according to the Bloomington Police Department.

Bloomington police said a detective arranged to meet with Eichorn at the 8300 block of Normandale Avenue on Monday evening.

Eichorn arrived in a pickup truck and was arrested by uniformed officers without incident, according to police.

The senator was booked into the Bloomington Police Department jail and transferred to Hennepin County Tuesday night.

Eichorn is charged with one count of knowingly attempting to hire a person under 18 but over the age of 16 for sex. It carries a maximum sentence of five years and a fine of up to $10,000.

The senator was being held at Hennepin County jail in lieu $75,000 bail ahead of a first appearance on the charge set for Thursday afternoon.
