Florida State University issued an active shooter warning Thursday on its emergency notification and warning system.

“An active shooter has been reported in the area of Student Union. Police are on scene or on the way. Continue to seek shelter and await further instructions. Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures,” the alert said at 12:01 p.m. Eastern time.

A second alert at 12:19 p.m. said, “Continue to shelter in place. Police have responded to an active shooter call at the Student Union. Stay alert for more information.” A similar message was sent at 12:38 p.m.

FSU, located in Tallahassee, canceled all classes and events for Thursday.

“Individuals not already on the main campus at this time should avoid coming to the Tallahassee main campus,” the alerts site stated at 12:40 p.m.

Videos posted to social media showed first responders including Florida Highway Patrol responding on campus.

“Looks like several students are hurt. Very scary situation right now,” posted FSU student Daniella Streety, who took video from across the street from the Student Union.

Some show first responders carrying what could be shooting victims from the scene.

NBC News reported that at least four people were being treated at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, according to a hospital spokesperson. There were no details on the extent of the injuries.
