KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An arrest warrant has been issued for a Kansas City woman months after she allegedly made terrorist threats to a children’s hospital, according to court records.

La’toya Summerville is charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with three counts of making terrorist threats after she allegedly told hospital staff she would shoot and bomb Children’s Mercy Hospital in December 2024.

In a probable cause statement, police said Summerville made the threats after being informed on Dec. 13, 2024, that the Missouri Department of Family Services was taking custody of her daughter.

A hospital social worker allegedly told police that Summerville told her she would “put on her shoes, come down there and shoot the hospital up.”

Investigators said Summerville called the hospital 31 times, harassing staff with obscene phone calls and making more threats, according to court documents.

A social worker informed detectives that Summerville was trespassed from the property due to the alleged persistent threats.

Hospital staff detail alleged threats

In one phone call with hospital staff, a worker allegedly told police that Summerville threatened to “blow up” the facility, shoot a doctor “in the face,” and stated that “they all were in cahoots, and could get some too.”

A charge nurse told police that on Dec. 15, 2024, she took a call from Summerville who was asking about paperwork in regard to her daughter getting taken away, police said in court documents. When the nurse told Summerville she didn’t have that information, she got upset over the phone, police said.

Officers responded to the hospital that day after the threats allegedly continued. According to court documents, Summerville arrived in person to the hospital and refused to leave.

A hospital security guard allegedly told police that while security escorted Summerville out of the building, she cursed at hospital staff and made threats to the security guards.

Summerville then allegedly drove erratically in the hospital parking lot with two unsecured children in her vehicle, police said in court documents. An officer was nearly struck by her car as Summerville sped off, police said.

Surveillance footage reviewed by detectives allegedly corroborated staff accounts of the incident Dec. 15. Several hospital employees—including a charge nurse, security supervisor, social work manager, and Department of Family Services personnel—provided statements detailing their encounters with Summerville’s threatening behavior.

Due to the constant and escalating severity of the threats, police said in a probable cause statement that they determined Summerville poses a danger to the community.

A Jackson County judge signed a warrant for her arrest on July 2.

As of Friday morning, Summerville did not appear to be in custody according to online booking logs. No court dates have yet been scheduled in the case.
