SEATTLE — The FBI found bones this week while searching for Travis Decker, a former soldier accused of killing his three daughters.

Search personnel found the bones around the Rock Island Campground, said Seattle FBI spokesperson Ted Halla. A Chelan County sheriff’s deputy found Decker’s truck at the same campground and the bodies of Decker’s three daughters 9-year-old Paityn, 8-year-old Evelyn and 5-year-old Olivia.

It is unclear if the bones are animal or human, Halla said. They will be further analyzed to make the determination.

Authorities closed popular campgrounds and hiking trails near Leavenworth so that nearly 100 FBI agents could conduct a grid search through more than 247 acres of the rugged terrain on Monday and Tuesday.

Sheriff Mike Morrison stressed in a news conference that it is still unknown whether Decker is dead or alive. There has been no break in the case, authorities said.

The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to Decker’s capture.
