At least 3 detained in Nancy Guthrie case, still no arrests made

Heavy overnight police activity in Tucson resulted in at least three people being detained in connection to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, but no arrests have been made.

Two individuals — a man and a woman — were taken out of a Pima County home during an operation involving a SWAT team, according to News Nation.

Investigators had a warrant for that visit and spent several hours searching the property, TMZ founder Harvey Levin said during an appearance on CNN Saturday morning.

A third person was simultaneously detained during a traffic stop in a parking lot of a restaurant about 2 miles from Guthrie’s home. Based on Levin’s law enforcement sources, he said it appears the male driver was confronted in connection to the search warrant at the residence, though that hasn’t been confirmed.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department posted on social media early Saturday morning that “law enforcement activity” was underway related to the Guthrie case, but said the FBI had asked that no further information be provided.

None of the people detained were arrested, Sheriff Chris Nanos told local CBS affiliate KOLD 13.

What led law enforcement to those individuals isn’t clear. The police activity was “nothing more than a lead tracked down that led to a search warrant and no arrest,” Nanos said.

Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing from her southern Arizona home on Feb. 1.

Video retrieved from her doorbell camera shows an armed man of average size wearing a mask and gloves outside her front door around the time she’s believed to have disappeared.

Authorities said the missing woman has limited mobility and a heart condition, but is of sound mind and would not have left her home on her own.

Ransom notes for her return have been sent to TMZ and two Tucson TV stations. The veracity of those messages isn’t known, though police have said they’re being taken very seriously.
