Jon Stewart doesn't buy Elon Musk's black eye story

NEW YORK — Embattled billionaire Elon Musk ended his tenure as an adviser to the Trump administration with a press conference last Friday where he sported a black eye.
Three days later, “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart took a poke at Musk’s shiner — and his questionable explanation for it.
Musk claimed at the Oval Office that he sustained the black eye after telling his son X that he could punch him in the face. But Stewart didn’t appear to believe that Musk told his 5-year-old he could rough him up.
“So you’re not gonna tell us what happened,” he joked on Monday night’s episode after rolling video of Musk describing the alleged incident. “Look, I believe some [things] do happen when you’re roughhousing with your kids. But I’m also sure the one sentence no parent has ever uttered to their child is, ‘Go ahead, punch me in the face.'”
Questioning Musk’s relationship with the truth has become fodder for Stewart’s program since the MAGA benefactor said in late February that he’d appear on “The Daily Show,” then quickly retreated from that interview after an invitation was extended.
Stewart dismissed Musk’s antics as “bulls—” and said follow-up efforts to discuss an interview went ignored.
But on Monday, Stewart’s annoyance turned to pity.
“I’m actually starting to feel bad for this guy,” he told viewers.
Behind Stewart was a photo of a bruised and battered Musk following his brief tenure heading Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency. He juxtaposed that exhausted-looking image with photos of a jubilant Musk bouncing across stages on the campaign trail.
“He’s been there four months! Look at the poor bastard,” Stewart said. “He went from tech titan, given a mandate to move fast and crush the deep state, to ‘guy who had a bad night in a Nashville bar and he can’t remember, OK?!'”
The Tesla CEO has seen his reputation, as well as the image of his electric vehicle company, deeply tarnished by his highly performative foray into politics.
“He’s got that look on his face I imagine only his employees normally have,” Stewart joked Monday night, pointing to Musk’s “beaten down” appearance.
Numerous stories arose during Musk’s time in Washington, D.C., detailing clashes he had with colleagues and a consensus that his personality isn’t for everyone.
The 53-year-old businessman’s alleged drug use was also the topic of a thorough New York Times story last week that claimed he traveled on the campaign trail with a heavy amount of ketamine, ecstasy, psychedelic mushrooms and what appeared to be Adderall.
Musk denied those allegations.
