Katie Thurston admitted the idea of undergoing a double mastectomy is a "challenge".

The Bachelorette star was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in February and she has now revealed she will have an operation in a few months to remove her breasts and then have a "boob job" and it has been a difficult process to come to terms with.

Speaking on the Off the Vine podcast, she explained: "We waited to see that the medicine is working. And it is.

"So we're gonna basically give it three more months, and then I can do a double mastectomy, get a boob job if I want, which is, I think, the route I'm gonna go...

"It's been a challenge of, like, 'I've worked my whole life to finally be confident in my breast era and then you're telling me I gotta chop them off and get new ones?' "

The 34-year-old beauty joked her husband Jeff Arcuri hopes she goes bigger with her breast implants, even though she is a "petite" woman.

Katie said: "With petite women sometimes, it can be too much."

And Jeff interjected: "I make jokes, but I don't care."

The reality star - who has put into medically-induced menopause earlier this month - is still hopeful about her future, even though she knows she will "technically" have cancer "forever".

She said: "My hope for the future is that, whether it's this year or next year, I'll be like, 'Hey guys, there's no evidence of disease.'

"Even though technically, stage 4 is not curable. Technically, medically, I will have breast cancer forever.

"But with so much advancement happening and the way that I caught it when I did, I'm very optimistic."

Despite her health issues, Katie has been doing her best to live life to the full and relished a recent vacation to Greece.

She said on her Instagram Story: "I enjoyed wine. I enjoyed the sugars, you know, the desserts. I enjoyed the memories that I'm making.

"Because what's the point of not living when you're given today? You know, when you're given life? And that's how I feel every day, I'm just like, 'Thank you.' Every night I go to bed, I'm like, 'Thank you for giving me today.'"
