DETROIT — Jack White is in a war of words with the Trump administration, and he's not the only Michigan rocker currently embroiled in a political feud at the highest levels of government.

After Jack White lashed out on social media against President Donald Trump's renovations of the Oval Office — in an Instagram post on Monday, White called Trump's makeover of the White House space "a vulgar, gold leafed and gaudy, professional wrestler's dressing room" and "an embarrassment to American history" — the White House hit back, with White House Communications Director Steven Cheung calling the White Stripes frontman "a washed up, has-been loser posting drivel on social media because he clearly has ample time on his hands due to his stalled career."

Cheung's comments came via The Daily Beast, where he added, "It's apparent (White has) been masquerading as a real artist, because he fails to appreciate, and quite frankly disrespects, the splendor and significance of the Oval Office inside of 'The People’s House.'"

It's not the first time White has teed off on Trump, but it's the first time the Trump White House has responded.

White previously slammed Trump for using the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" in a campaign video, commenting, "Don't even think about using my music you fascists." White sued over the song's use, although the lawsuit was later dropped.

In 2022, White pulled his record label, Third Man Records, off of X after the social media platform's owner, Elon Musk, allowed Trump to return to the social media platform. In 2016, Third Man sold T-shirts with the phrase, "Icky Trump," a reference to the White Stripes' 2007 album, "Icky Thump."

Trump's ally Kid Rock has also been at the center of recent political drama, as the "Bawitdaba" singer has been going back and forth with California Gov. Gavin Newsom on social media.

Newsom, who has recently taken to posting on X in the style of Trump, recently posted a mock poster of Kid Rock, dressed as Uncle Sam, along with the words, "Kid Rock wants you to support Gavin Newsom." Co-signing the image, Newsom wrote the words "I accept!" above the post.

Rock fired back on Tuesday on X, writing, "The only support Gavin Newscum will ever get out of me is from DEEZ NUTZ."

Newsom then responded, "I HATE KID ROCK !!!," in the style of Trump's September 2024 Truth Social pronouncement, "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!" Newsom then doubled down on the Rock/ Swift conflation, writing, "HAS ANYONE NOTICED THAT SINCE I SAID 'I HATE KID ROCK' HE'S NO LONGER 'HOT?'" the same way Trump declared Swift "no longer hot" after his declaration of hatred toward her in a May 2025 Truth Social post.

There's no word yet from Rock over the latest posts from Newsom.

As part of the White Stripes, White is due to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Los Angeles in November.
