Emma Heming Willis says caring for her husband Bruce Willis has made her realise how "vital" it is to concentrate on her own health.

The 47-year-old model and entrepreneur was inspired to launch her women's brain health brand Make Time Wellness after Bruce was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2023 and says the venture has underlined to her how important self-care is.

Emma told People: "I think as women in society, we tend to put ourselves last, and we put everyone's needs above our own. And what I've realised is that if you are not caring for yourself, if you are not finding ways to make time for your health, your hobbies, it's impossible to be able to care for the people that we love."

The model - who revealed that she and the Die Hard star were living in separate homes last year because of his declining health - was concerned after reading alarming statistics about caregivers losing focus on their own health.

She said: "I think that 40 per cent of caregivers aren't making their own medical appointments and caregivers can sometimes pass before their loved ones.

"So that's a reminder to keep me on track and hopefully educate people, caregiver or not, just about the importance of caring for yourself. It's really vital."

Emma explained how she has learned new ways to balance her life with caring for her husband.

She said: "It's really easy to get bogged down with our to-do lists and our calendars. I try to have a 'brain break' on my calendar.

"So I remember to step away from the screen, getting outside, making sure that I am checking the boxes on my brain health journey because that's sort of how I care for myself now. I think about my brain first and the rest of my body benefits."

Emma added: "I mean, it's embedded in our brand name, you know, making time for yourself.

"I think it's just coming from the mindset of knowing how important I am and trying to keep sight of that. We have to really learn how to value ourselves."

Meanwhile, Emma recently revealed that Bruce, 70, has never been aware that he has dementia.

Speaking on the Conversations with Cam podcast, she said: "Bruce never, never tapped in.

"I think that's like the blessing and the curse of this, is that he never connected the dots that he had this disease, and I'm really happy about that. I'm really happy that he doesn't know about it."
