NEW YORK — A “note” was discovered near the body of Martin Short’s late daughter Katherine, who reportedly died by suicide at her Hollywood Hills home earlier this week.

The 42-year-old social worker, adopted by the Emmy winner and his late wife Nancy Dolman, had not “been heard from in 24 hours” when a concerned friend contacted authorities Monday, law enforcement sources told TMZ.

Short’s body was found behind a locked bedroom door, near a gun and “note,” said sources.

Foul play has reportedly been ruled out, though homicide detectives responded to the scene.

The outlet was previously told Short had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and was discovered around 6:40 p.m. local time Monday.

In dispatch audio since obtained and released by the outlet, a firefighter can be heard referring to the shooting as “self-inflicted.”

“It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world,” the family said in a statement to People.

Earlier this week, the NYU graduate’s website said she worked as a social worker in Los Angeles. As of Friday morning, the website could no longer be accessed.

Katherine died just before her father and his longtime friend, collaborator Steve Martin, were set to start their comedy tour Friday, which has now been postponed.

Martin Short and Dolan, who died in 2010, also adopted sons Oliver, 39, and 36-year-old Henry.
