Ryan Gosling arranged for his wife Eva Mendes to receive a special birthday tribute on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The couple - who have been together since 2011 and have two children together - made their first public appearance together in more than a decade when they faced the cameras side-by-side during the TV show on Thursday (05.03.26) with Ryan, 45, taking a break from promoting his new movie Project Hail Mary to mark Eva's 52nd birthday that day.
During Ryan's interview, he turned the subject to his wife, revealing it was her birthday and she would be thrilled to see so many teachers in the audience that night. He then asked the studio audience to help him sing happy birthday to her. He said: "It is Eva's birthday today. She's here.
"You have no idea how much she loves teachers, loves you so much. She has her hall monitor sash from when she was a kid. She hangs it proudly in the house .. If I get her, would you sing Happy Birthday to her?"
The cameras then cut to Eva being escorted into the studio, with host Jimmy explaining the actress had "no idea" what was about to happen and Ryan joking: "Here's the thing, you might find me in the Hudson River tomorrow."
After she stepped into the studio, Ryan greeted his partner with a kiss, saying: "Hi sweetheart" before taking her hand and leading her to the other side of the stage.
Eva - who seemingly thought she had been brought in to address the teachers in the audience - then said: "I do love teachers so much. We owe so much to you guys. You're so underpaid .. Thank you so much. I had so many amazing teachers ... mentor me and I just want to say thank you to you guys.'
Jimmy then introduced the band directors from North Bergen High School and brought in the facility's marching band who strode onto the stage performing a rendition of Happy Birthday for the actress.
As the show concluded, the host told the audience they would all be treated to a special screening of Ryan's new sci-fi film after The Tonight Show went off-air.
Ryan and Eva's appearance on the show together comes 13 years after they last attended a public event together when they were seen on the red carpet at the New York City premiere of their movie The Place Beyond The Pines back in 2013.
