MINNEAPOLIS — Singer, rapper, flutist, dancer, actor, reality TV star. Lizzo will add another title to her resume — author.

The Minneapolis-launched multihyphenate will publish “Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’,” a children’s book in September via Simon & Schuster.

Of course, there’s a flute involved. What else would you expect from Lizzo?

The book tells the story of a little girl who just wants to belong and she meets a flute who can’t find her tune. They go on an unusual adventure in this story about friendship — and finding your voice.

“When I was young, I struggled to fit in but playing the flute helped me find my voice,” Lizzo said in a statement. “I want this book to teach every young person out there that your passion can give you purpose, belonging, and lead you on a journey to fulfill your wildest dreams. This book means so much to me.”

The book is illustrated by Mark Pett, a former sixth-grade teacher who is a political cartoonist and syndicated cartoonist of the strip “Lucky Cow” (2003-08). He has authored and illustrated many children’s books, including “The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes” and “Lizard from the Park.”

“Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’” will include a QR code for an original Lizzo song created for this project.

Lizzo, a Detroit native, came to Minneapolis from Houston in 2011 and launched her music career in the North Star State before heading to Los Angeles in 2016. In addition to scoring the No. 1 songs “Truth Hurts” and “About Damn Time,” she has won four Grammys and one Emmy and launched a line of clothing. Lizzo’s latest recording was the mixtape “My Face Hurts From Smiling” released in June.

This month, Lizzo was named Minnesota’s 15th biggest arts and entertainment celebrity by the Minnesota Star Tribune’s culture staff. Prince topped the list.
