Cheryl Hines responds to Chelsea Handler's 'toxic' house accusation

Cheryl Hines says comedian Chelsea Handler’s recent accusations that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Hines sold her an uninhabitable home don’t make sense.
Handler first claimed in a March 5 episode of her “Dear Chelsea” podcast that she unwittingly bought a $6 million Los Angeles house from the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star and Health and Human Services secretary nearly five years ago that workers described is as “toxic.”
She further spoke about that home during a visit to “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” last week, where the comedian said she’d finally moved into the place. According to Handler, the house was purchased through a blind trust so she didn’t know who the previous owners were until Hines sent her a personal note welcoming the 51-year-old comic to her new home.
Hines responded to Handler’s claim during a Thursday episode of right-wing pundit Tomi Lahren’s podcast.
“I did write her a personal note when she moved in, just saying how much we love the house. And I hope that she has a beautiful life in this house,” Hines claimed.
She said the note included her personal phone number, which she encouraged Handler to use if she needed anything.
“If we were trying to unload a toxic house on her, I wouldn’t have left my number,” Hines argued.
Hines said she finds it suspect that, years after Handler purchased the home, she’s publicly maligning the property.
Handler is traveling with her “High and Mighty Tour,” which she’ll perform in Maine on Friday followed by a Saturday show in Rhode Island.
Hines told Lahren that Handler probably decided that making fun of her and Kennedy at this point in time might be useful.
“She’s trying to get a laugh, I guess,” Hines said.
Handler’s representatives haven’t responded to a request for comment.
