The Function of Double Conjunctions

Holiday Mathis on

Satisfaction gives us contentment. But if you can't quite get there, don't worry -- it doesn't make you an ungrateful malcontent. Dissatisfaction is necessary, too. It's the fuel for change, the tension that creates movement -- as seen in today's sky, with the moon meeting Venus in ease and Mercury joining Mars in drive. Think of them as the inhale and exhale of life.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Truth isn't uniform. It wears many costumes, and the way you experience it will feel very different depending on the moment and context. Today features a hard truth and an easy one. Both affirm and assure your direction.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). At first, work feels clunky and effortful. But once you've repeated it enough, you find your groove -- a rhythm that saves time and energy while looking pretty smooth to the outside world. Maybe even cool.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). It's an ideal day for commerce and communication. You'll have a knack for buying just what you need and at the best price, too. You'll also say what you need to say. Tomorrow it may get trickier to figure out the right words.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). The form of thanks that will come easiest to you today? Pleasure. Maybe you'll also say "thank you" in words, but it's the enjoyment you feel that will be noticed and counted as the purest kind of thanks.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You're allowed to tell people where your boundaries are and not have that turn into a point of contention. Scolding, corrections and power plays are the stuff of hierarchy, not friendship. Doing the work of ego maintenance instead of having fun? It's a red flag.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Unless you are a psychoanalyst by trade, sleuthing the subconscious motivations of others could waste your energy today because there's nothing to figure out. People are confusing and confused. The quick and easy way is tolerance.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You've built up habits of mind for problem-solving. You stay calm. You reframe. You focus on what helps. You may not even be fully aware of how you do this. Nonetheless, it's working for you. In fact, it's making you a star.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). When you're too close to a situation, you can convince yourself something illogical makes sense. This is why outsiders who aren't emotionally invested can spot what's really happening more quickly than the people in the middle of it.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Don't mistake early obstacles for rejection. They're warm-up laps, not dead ends. Often it takes a few attempts before your contributions click with others and get the recognition they deserve. Keep going.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Once you commit, you go all in. That intensity is a gift but can drain you if you're not careful. Don't let others choose what you throw yourself into, or you'll be burning up your energy on things that don't matter to you.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). People know that someone who speaks negatively about others is a dangerous person to be close to. So the case against speaking or hearing gossip is both practical and moral. It not only undermines every relationship; it's a bad look.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You're sensitive to undercurrents, but don't confuse empathy with responsibility. It's enough to notice and to care. You don't have to fix what isn't yours. Protecting your own serenity helps everyone around you.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Oct. 19). Welcome to your Year of Transcendent Bonds. Good ones get better. Negative or neutral relationships turn golden. Your network expands. You can even send mental messages to people regardless of where they are in space and time. Young people look up to you and follow you. Elders rely on you and fund you. More highlights: new destinations, uncharted intellectual territory, hot tickets and winning teams. Leo and Sagittarius adore you. Your lucky numbers are 2, 23, 19, 4 and 15.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Fresh from documenting his "passion builds" and speaking openly about a new outlook on life after a health scare, Ty Pennington is back at work as the host of "Rock the Block." The television host, carpenter, designer and author has rededicated himself to his mission of transforming spaces and lifting the people who live there. Born under Libra, the sign of art, design and harmony, Pennington lives by the Libran belief that "Good design can change your life."
