Is there a Scripture that speaks to the complex issue discussed in the first paragraph?

on

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: I attend two Bible studies each week; one with other women, and my husband and I attend a couple’s study. It is a growing concern that these Bible studies are more like therapy sessions because we don’t really learn much about God. The Scriptures are repeated over and over, selections to make us feel justified in our troubles. I feel like if we learned more about Jesus Himself that our discouragements may be overcome. Is there a Scripture that speaks to this? – I.S.

A: It is obvious how poverty-stricken spiritual people have become. There is trite small talk that passes between many Christians. The daily conversation, whether at school, at work, or in our pastime, should be Christ-centered. All of these activities should reflect God’s Word and the difference it makes in life. Believers should be exchanging spiritual thoughts and blessings. The Bible says that we should “edify” one another [to encourage and instruct when necessary]. And we should be open to receiving others’ input when supported by Scripture.

We can be helpful to defeated Christians who haven’t known the power, the thrill, and the joy that Christ can bring. This is the time to speak up and pray for friends and family who need this word of hope. The Bible says, “I thought about my ways, and turned my feet to Your testimonies” (Psalm 119:59, NKJV).

It is a thrilling, joyous experience to wake up every morning and know His presence in the room. It is a thrilling, delightful experience to know, in the evening when the sun is setting, the peace of God. When turning in for the night, Christ will bring sleep to our eyes and rest to our souls. To walk with Him is to have His direction and His assurance that He is with us.
