Is there a Biblical lesson concerning water?

Q: There’s a lot of emphasis being put on getting the United States healthy again. At first, I thought it was just a talking point for the purpose of scoring political points, but the evidence of skyrocketing diseases and death, even in young people, made me pause and consider the facts. Society is drinking all the wrong things, ignoring the fact that our nation is blessed with clean and plentiful water. People in developing countries drink filthy water and would give much for clean water. An article that caught my attention was that dehydration can be a culprit for declining health – something as simple as the intake of water. Does the Bible speak to this in specific ways, and is there a Biblical lesson concerning water? – T.S.
A: Our bodies are made up largely of water, and if we don’t have enough water to drink, the cells and organs of our bodies can’t function properly. When deer are thirsty, they want water. Water is the only thing that will quench their thirst. “As the deer pants for [water], so my soul pants for You, God” (Psalm 42:1, NASB).
Just like our bodies need water, our souls need God, and this is what it means to thirst for God. As believers in Christ, we should yearn for God. Seeking Him in all things should supersede every other desire. We should have a gnawing hunger and a burning thirst for the things of Him.
Where do we find spiritual food and water? In the Bible – the Word of God. The Bible reveals Christ is the Bread of Life for the hungry soul and the Water of Life for the thirsty heart.
