I write to encourage other readers to help kids develop interests in the Bible!
From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham
Q: My daughter moved her children from a public school to a private Christian school. It’s costly, but she and her husband decided they would give up vacations and take other cost-saving measures to get their children into a better academic environment where the Word of God is taught and honored, and they’ve allowed the children to contribute ideas, making the process fun. The children have flourished and are growing deep roots and learning about vines and branches spoken of in Scripture. I write to encourage other readers to help kids develop interests in the Bible. With guidance, children can tap into God’s Word, infusing their minds and hearts with God’s goodness. – C.E.
A: It’s no accident that the Bible speaks of trees, even urging us to grow spiritual roots that are deep and strong. Spiritual life begins with a seed – the seed of God’s Word – planted in the soil of our souls that eventually sprouts and becomes a new seedling when we come to know Christ.
We aren’t meant to remain spiritual seedlings, weak and vulnerable. God’s will for us is to grow strong in our faith and be grounded in the truth of His Word and firmly committed to doing His will (see 1 Peter 2:2). What an investment it is when parents nourish their children from Scripture.
When we become children of God, we are taking the essential first step – but it is only the first step. Growing strong in our relationship to Christ and our service to Him is a lifelong journey.
Word studies from the Bible will teach us many things about ourselves, others, and most certainly the Lord Jesus. Scripture speaks of trees approximately 300 times. “He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season” (Psalm 1:3, NKJV).
