Do Just One Thing

Danny Seo on

Salmon can be a heart-healthy addition to your diet, but not all fillets are created equal. Some varieties can contain higher levels of chemicals, heavy metals and other contaminants. When shopping, look for "wild-caught Alaskan" salmon rather than "farm-raised." Scientists have found that wild salmon generally contains lower levels of contaminants and higher amounts of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids compared to farmed salmon. It also tends to be lower in total fat, meaning more omega-3s per bite. Add in Alaska's strict fishing regulations, and wild-caught salmon stands out as a more sustainable choice as well.
