Trump's golf contributes to 'excellent health' according to WH doc

President Donald Trump has lost about 20 pounds since his last official weigh-in and he can thank his golf game, at least in part, according to his doctor.

The 47th U.S. President, at 78 the oldest ever inaugurated, still stands 6-feet-3-inches tall — just as he did during his first term — but the scale now shows his weight at 224 pounds, compared to the 244 pounds found in 2020.

U.S. Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella wrote in a memorandum released Sunday that the exam he conducted at the end of last week revealed Trump’s “active lifestyle” — as demonstrated by his busy schedule, many public appearances, and “frequent victories in golf events” — helps to “contribute significantly to his well being.”

The president “remains in excellent health, exhibiting robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function,” the White House physician wrote.

In addition to his blood work coming back mostly within normal ranges, the president’s doctor noted he’d taken and achieved a perfect score on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment exam.

“President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State,” Barbabella concluded.

According to Trump’s last publicly available White House physician’s memorandum, released when he was 72 years old, he was reported as in “very good health overall” but up four pounds from the previous year, when his doctors said he weighed 239 pounds. In 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and while the president was taking hydroxychloroquine as a preventative measure, his weight was pegged at 244 pounds.

In comparing current and past releases, it appears the president has seen positive results from an ongoing course of the cholesterol drugs rosuvastatin and ezetimibe. In January of 2018, his total cholesterol levels were reported at 223, a bit higher than the less-than-200 recommended by health experts. In 2019, it was reported at 196, and by 2020 it had fallen to 167. As of his most recent physical, according to Trump’s doctor, he’s measuring in at 140.

The president’s resting heart rate is a very healthy 62 beats per minute, while his blood pressure stands at 128/74. Any systolic reading above 120 but below 130 is considered elevated, but not yet hypertension.

In 2019 the White House physician reported Trump’s heart rate at 70 bpm, and his blood pressure at 118/80. In 2020, after the president caught COVID and completed prescribed therapy, his heart rate was recorded at 69 bpm and his blood pressure at 127/81.

This year’s exam of the president noted “scarring on the right ear from a gunshot wound” he sustained during an apparent assassination attempt while campaigning last summer in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The report also revealed that the president underwent a colonoscopy last July, when he was diagnosed with diverticulitis and a benign polyp, and had cataract surgery at some undetailed point in the past.
