White House celebrates Rosie O'Donnell applying for Irish citizenship

Rosie O’Donnell isn’t the only one happy she’s seeking citizenship in another country; staffers at President Donald Trump’s White House are also counting their lucky charms.

The Emmy Award-winning comedienne, who has long had a bitter feud with the MAGA leader, departed the U.S. for Ireland this year just days before Trump returned to power.

Her decision, she said, was prompted by her desire to protect her autistic, nonbinary child from plans laid out in Trump’s Project 2025, as well as the controversial views on autism promoted by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

O’Donnell has since remained critical of the administration’s polarizing politics, and said she’s in the process of getting her Irish citizenship. Trump has responded by threatening to revoke her legal U.S. status.

In a recent interview with the Australian Daily Telegraph, O’Donnell again confirmed she’s taking steps to secure her citizenship on the Emerald Isle.

“I am applying and about to be approved for my Irish citizenship as my grandparents were from there and that’s all you need,” she said. “It will be good to have my Irish citizenship, especially since Trump keeps threatening to take away mine.”

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson didn’t hesitate to celebrate the former talk show queen’s announcement.

“What great news for America!,” the deputy press secretary said in a statement.

When Trump in July told his supporters that he was “giving serious consideration to taking away” O’Donnell’s citizenship, he dubbed her a “threat to humanity” who’s better off staying in Europe as she’s “not in the best interests” of the U.S.

During a recent interview on the “No Filter” podcast, the “League of Our Own” star revealed she missed her daughter’s college graduation because she was advised that returning to the U.S. might not be safe due to the president’s hostility toward her.

O’Donnell said she feared Trump would use her visit to “rile his base,” which she described as large and confrontational.

“I’m his nemesis in his mind,” she said. “That’s a very difficult place to be.”
