Warriors share more details about Steph Curry's return

SAN FRANCISCO — A decision on Steph Curry’s possible return could be made as soon as Friday.
During his pregame press conference before facing the Cavaliers on Thursday, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said that Curry participated in a scrimmage earlier in the day, his second scrimmage in three days.
“He’s pretty good,” Kerr said when asked to describe Curry’s latest scrimmage. “He looks like Steph Curry.”
He then said that Warriors’ team doctor Rick Celebrini and Curry will collaborate on a decision before the team faces the Rockets on Sunday.
“Day to day, and we’ll see how he recovers tomorrow,” Kerr said. “We have a couple days to recover, and Rick and Steph will make a decision on that tomorrow probably.”
Counting Thursday, Curry has missed the past 27 games with runner’s knee.
However, after scrimmaging on Tuesday, he put on a shooting exhibition before the Warriors played the Spurs on Wednesday, drawing a substantial crowd and hundreds of cameras ready to document every second of his famous shooting drill.
Curry is averaging 27.2 points per game this season.
The team has two days off before playing against Houston on Sunday, which is when multiple outlets have reported that Curry is expected to come back.
The Warriors believed he would return to drills after the All-Star break in early February, but Curry reported more swelling in his knee, further delaying his rehabilitation.
Curry did pregame shooting drills on March 18 in Boston and was expected to scrimmage at a practice over the next few days. However, he did not take that next necessary step until Tuesday.
Kerr has repeatedly reiterated that the Warriors will need to give Curry several games to “ramp up” his minutes ahead of an inevitable play-in tournament game in under two weeks.
Curry’s return is eagerly anticipated by a Warriors team that entered Thursday with a 36-40 record and a spot in the play-in tournament guaranteed.
“He brings hope to a tough situation,” Kerr said, later adding, “When Steph’s around, the vibe tends to be better, and it’s definitely better right now.”
