Boxer Gervonta Davis arrested in Florida in alleged domestic case

BALTIMORE — Baltimore boxing champion Gervonta Davis was arrested Friday morning in Florida, nearly a month after an alleged domestic dispute involving his former partner, according to the Miami Dade County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Davis, a 30-year-old lightweight known by his nickname “Tank,” was taken into custody on a misdemeanor battery charge in Miami Beach, court records show.
Davis struck and slapped his ex on Father’s Day as they were exchanging custody of their two children, according to Ed Griffith, a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office.
Public records show Davis remains in jail with bond “to be set” over his latest legal issue.
Since 2017, the undefeated boxer (30-0-1) has been arrested and charged over fights in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Florida — the latter of which involved a former girlfriend. It was not immediately clear whether those charges, that were eventually dropped, involved the same partner as the new case.
In 2023, Davis was also sentenced to serve 90 days of house arrest after a hit-and-run crash in downtown Baltimore injured four people.
