Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss the team’s visit to the White House and meeting with President Trump on Monday.

Hurts and other Eagles players missing the trip have “scheduling conflicts,” the White House told NBC News.

The Eagles’ White House visit, a tradition for all Super Bowl champions, has been hotly debated. Last week, Hurts was asked about possibly attending and responded only, “Um ...” followed by eight seconds of silence.

“Our culture is that these are optional things,” team owner Jeffrey Lurie told reporters in early April. “If you want to enjoy this, come along and we’ll have a great time and if you don’t, it is totally an optional thing.”

The Eagles also won the Super Bowl in 2018, during Trump’s first term, but did not visit the White House. After several players publicly said they wouldn’t attend any event, Trump canceled it entirely.

“No, I’m not going to the White House,” defensive lineman Chris Long said at the time. “Are you kidding me?”

Hurts, 26, was still in college when the Eagles won the title in 2018. The team selected him in the second round of the NFL draft in 2020.

Another prominent Eagles player, running back Saquon Barkley was in attendance Monday and golfed with Trump on Sunday.

“Maybe I just respect the office, not a hard concept to understand,” Barkley wrote Monday on social media, addressing his critics. “Just golfed with Obama not too long ago ... and look forward to finishing my round with Trump! Now ya get out my mentions with all this politics.”
