Greg Cote's Thursday night NFL pick

COMMANDERS (1-0) at PACKERS (1-0)

Cote’s pick: GB, 30-17.
TV: 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Prime Video.
If the NFL’s biggest Week 1 takeaway was that the Dolphins had the worst opening since Moose Murders on Broadway, second place may have been, “Wait a second. Are the Packers the new favorite in the NFC!?” If not, they’re suddenly on the heel of reigning champ Philly and poised in the passing lane. Green Bay’s 27-13 dispatch of Detroit -- and the instant impact of new defensive star Micah Parsons -- was convincing. Less so: Washington beating the lowly Giants, 21-6, although new Comms receiver Deebo Samuel paid fast dividends, too. This is one of only four 1-0 vs. 1-0 matchups to kick-off Week 2, and the big question in it is if the Pack is back ... as in, a Super Bowl contender? We need more proof, but think we’ll get some here. The Gee Bees’ defense is contender quality, and only enhanced by adding Parsons. Washington’s D is not contender quality. Russell Wilson couldn’t solve it last week, but Jordan Love, Josh Jacobs and company will. Also especially like Parsons vs. a retooled Comms o-line, with Lambeau Field in prime time only magnifying the home-field edge here. Packers are on a 23-9 tear against the spread in prime time, and 16-3 ATS (8-0 at home) the first three games of a season under coach Matt Lafleur. Oh, and Washington has lost straight-up its last six trips to Lambeau.
