ST. LOUIS — The Blues selected winger Justin Carbonneau in the first round on Friday night, adding a physical and skilled forward to their prospect pool.

St. Louis picked Carbonneau with the 19th pick after he had 46 goals and 43 assists in 62 games for Blainville-Boisbriand in the QMJHL. Carbonneau is a former football player who checks in at 6-1 and 205 pounds.

Carbonneau, a right-handed shot, is the first first-rounder out of Quebec selected by the Blues since they took Zack Bolduc with the 17th pick in 2021. He could return to the QMJHL next season, or he could jump to NCAA hockey, where he's been linked to both Boston College and Boston University.

Carbonneau was ranked 16th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting, and is regarded as a power forward.

The Blues only have three draft picks this weekend, and the remaining two are in the fifth and sixth rounds. The second- and third-round picks were sent to Edmonton as compensation for Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. The fourth-rounder was traded to Columbus for Alexandre Texier, and the seventh was sent to Detroit for Jakub Vrana.
