Red Wings re-sign Patrick Kane on eve of free agency

DETROIT — For the second consecutive year, the Red Wings and Patrick Kane took negotiations to the eve of free agency.

The Wings and Kane worked something out on Monday night.

The Wings and Kane agreed to a one-year contract with an annual average value of $3 million. Kane, 36, can earn another $4 million per bonuses. Kane can earn $2.5 million for 10 games played, $250,000 for 30 games, $250,000 for 50 games played, another $500,000 if the Wings make the playoffs, $250,000 for a first-round victory and $250,000 for a third-round victory.

In 72 games, Kane produced 59 points (21 goals, 38 assists), with a minus-16 rating. Kane is eight goals shy of 500 in his career (492) and has 851 assists for 1,343 points.

 

Unrestricted free agency in the NHL begins Tuesday at noon ET.
