The Kraken came all the way back from a 3-0 deficit in the span of 10 minutes to snag a standings point on Tuesday night. For all that effort, Seattle lost in overtime to Montreal for the second time in two weeks.

Seattle and Montreal combined for a low-event first two periods with just 22 combined shots on goal. The Canadiens seemingly stirred up enough offense to win it in the first period. They jumped out to a two-goal lead and cruised until the third period, when the Kraken came to life.

Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky put Montreal’s first two goals on the board, Caufield the happy recipient of a bounce, Slafkovsky finishing off a passing play in the low slot.

That score held until nearly six minutes into the third period, when the Canadiens power play put on a display and the Kraken watched them do it. Alex Newhook caught Kraken goaltender Joey Daccord sliding across the crease and made it 3-0.

A little over a week after losing his brother Cameron to ALS, Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour scored his first goal since returning from a stretch of personal leave. He made it 3-1 in the third period on the power play, then added the primary assist on Seattle’s next goal six minutes later.

Center Shane Wright was parked and waiting for the puck to spit out to him with 4:43 left in regulation. He coolly deposited his third of the season.

With Daccord pulled for the extra attacker and about a minute and a half to spare, Montour scored on a long slap shot to tie the game. The Kraken let up in overtime, when Caufield scored just 44 seconds in.

Daccord, who has started all four Seattle home games, made 17 saves. Jakub Dobes made 18 stops for Montreal.

On Oct. 14 in Montreal, the Canadiens were the ones to force overtime in the final minutes. Caufield scored that OT winner as well.

Montreal blemished Seattle’s unbeaten home record, but they remain undefeated in regulation at 3-0-1.

Goal of the game: Montour’s second goal, which sent the game to overtime and the crowd into hysterics.

Player of the game: Caufield (two goals, including the OT winner, one assist)

On tap: The Kraken finished off October 5-2-3. They don’t play again until Saturday, when they host the New York Rangers at the midway point of a five-game homestand.
