Courtney Love has begged Dave Grohl to "man up" and stop his fans from "picking on her".

The 61-year-old singer wants the Foo Fighters frontman to "just say we're cool" as she alleged the rock star is "afraid" to "lose his audience" if he publicly supports the widow of his late Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain.

Speaking on The Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan podcast, she encouraged Dave to: "Come out with it and just say we're cool."

She added: "Be man enough to man up."

Courtney continued: "It would really behoove me if the straight white males that are your base, if you will, stop picking on me. The millennials in particular. Gen Z is not picking on me anymore."

When The Smashing Pumpkins star Billy insisted he "can confirm" that the 57-year-old rocker "doesn't have any issue" with the former Hole frontwoman, she said: "Say that to his base. It's so stupid."

She also alleged that Dave has written a few songs about her which have become "hits" for Foo Fighters.

She said: "I couldn't write a song about Dave Grohl to save my life. He's written like, four songs about me and they're hits.

"I'm like, wait what? Like, what about me? I don't get it."

In 2009, Dave confirmed that his 1995 track I'll Stick Around, which featured on Foos' self-titled debut album, was about Courtney.

He sang on the track: "I've been around all the pawns you've gagged and bound / They'll come back and knock you down and I'll be free."

It's also claimed he wrote 2007 song Let It Die about the singer.

Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, he said: "[It's] a song that's written about feeling helpless to someone else's demise.

"I've seen people lose it all to drugs and heartbreak and death. It's happened more than once in my life, but the one that's most noted is Kurt.

"And there are a lot of people that I've been angry with in my life, but the one that's most noted is Courtney. So it's pretty obvious to me that those correlations are gonna pop up every now and again."

In 1999, he criticised her songwriting, while she later branded him a "stupid motherf*****", while in 2002 they reached a settlement over a legal battle over the rights to Nirvana's music.

In 2014, they were seen hugging as Nirvana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and she later claimed they "picked up where we left off after 20 years of suing each other".

She told Jimmy Kimmel Live! at the time: "Me and Grohl, we're totally tight. And I mean look, if you can give up a grudge like that -- because there was a lot of crap that went on -- I think anyone can do it."
