Are Christians given special traits in life?

Q: Is it true that Christians are given special traits in life? I heard someone speak of this, but I had never really heard this before – that Christianity is superior to other religions. If true, are these identified in Scripture? – S.T.

A: Christ is supreme! But there are certain privileges that true Christians can enjoy. The first, of course, is the privilege of belonging to Jesus Christ through receiving mercy and grace of His salvation. “For by grace you are saved through faith … it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8, NKJV).

Among many other privileges is having God’s wisdom and the guidance of His Holy Spirit continually. The Bible says that if we lack wisdom we should ask of God and He will give it to us (see James 1:5). Believers also have a new heart and spirit (see Ezekiel 11:19), a new relationship (see 2 Corinthians 5:17), a new citizenship (see Philippians 3:20), a new family (see Ephesians 2:19), a new purpose, a new power (see Acts 1:8), a new destiny (see Jeremiah 29:11), and a new journey (see Isaiah 40:8).

Christians have true optimism, the assurance that, according to divine revelation, the will of God will be accomplished. “Declaring the end from the beginning … saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure’” (Isaiah 46:10, NKJV).

The Scriptures teach us that God has a definite plan for each period of history, for every nation, and for every individual. It also declares God’s plan for the return of Christ when His kingdom will be established. For Christians, life has a plan and an assurance that God will ultimately triumph over all unrighteousness.

What a prospect! What a future! What a hope! What a life! His peace floods hearts and overwhelms souls. What a thrill to know that someday God’s people will populate His glorious home – Heaven.
