CBS morning show praises Royals for providing free admission to Negro Leagues Baseball Museum

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Royals got a shout-out from a “CBS Mornings” anchor on Wednesday for their support of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

In the month of February, the Royals and their charitable foundation will cover the cost of admission for anyone who wants to visit the museum. That’s in honor of Black History Month.

This will be the fourth straight year the Royals are offering that deal. The team said more than 16,000 people visited the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City last February, and the Royals Foundation contributed more than $135,000 for those admissions.

“We are ecstatic that the Kansas City Royals and The Royals Foundation are once again opening the doors of the museum free of charge for the entire month of February,” museum president Bob Kendrick said in a news release.

“The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is a valuable educational resource. This impactful community outreach provides greater access to the museum that will allow students and others to learn about a once-forgotten chapter of baseball and American history and be inspired by the courageous athletes who overcame tremendous social adversity to ‘play ball.’”

The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is located at 1616 E. 18th Street in Kansas City. Here are the museum’s hours in February:

— Monday: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

— Tuesday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

— Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

— Thursday to Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

— Sunday: Noon to 5 p.m.

The NLBM will be closed on Feb. 17, which is Presidents’ Day.

Nate Burleson praised the Royals on Wednesday’s “CBS Mornings” show.

“I just love that major league organizations like the Kansas City Royals, doing their job to keep the history of the Negro Leagues going,” Burleson said.
