PHILADELPHIA — Make room in the Phillies’ band for Jesús Luzardo.
With free agency looming after this season, Luzardo agreed Monday to a five-year, $135 million contract extension, a major league source confirmed, keeping the 28-year-old lefty with the Phillies through at least the 2031 season.
News of the deal was first reported by ESPN.com.
Luzardo posted a 3.92 ERA and achieved career-highs for innings (183 2/3) and strikeouts (216) in 2025, his first season with the Phillies after being acquired in a trade from the Marlins. In January, he said on The Philadelphia Inquirer’s baseball podcast that he was “really interested” in discussing an extension during spring training.
The extension will kick in after this season. Luzardo is due to make $11 million this year, a salary that was negotiated through arbitration.
Luzardo will join Bryce Harper and Trea Turner as Phillies who are signed through at least 2031. Aaron Nola and Kyle Schwarber are locked up through 2030, while fellow lefty Cristopher Sánchez is signed through 2028 with team options for 2029 and 2030.
