Kansas basketball coach Bill Self released from hospital after stent procedure

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball coach Bill Self was released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Saturday, KU Athletics announced.

Self, 62, was admitted Thursday after experiencing “some concerning symptoms.” He subsequently had two stents inserted.

“I want to thank all the amazing doctors and nurses at LMH Health for the excellent care I received during my stay there,” Self said in a news release. “I feel strong and am excited to be home. Our team has had a productive summer and look forward to our batteries being recharged and prepping for this upcoming season.”

On Thursday, KU Athletics had noted that, “The procedure went very well, and he is expected to make a full recovery.”

Self missed KU’s postseason run in 2023 because he was hospitalized on March 8 after experiencing chest tightness. During that time, he also had two stents inserted. The Jayhawks lost to Arkansas in the first round of the NCAA tournament that year.

The Jayhawks recently finished their summer workouts as Self and company prepare for his 23rd season as head coach of the team.
