Jets WR Garrett Wilson agrees to 4-year, $130 million contract extension

NEW YORK — A week before the start of training camp, the Jets have extended one of their cornerstone players.
Wide receiver Garrett Wilson and the Jets have agreed on a four-year, $130 million contract, which includes $90 million guaranteed.
That is the fourth-largest guarantee ever for a wide receiver. After his contract extension, Wilson, 24, will be under contract with the Jets until after the 2030 season.
“I’m hopeful I’m a Jet for life and that we get this thing rolling and that all of our best days are ahead of us,” Wilson said in May.
Wilson will average $32.5 million per season, which places him among the highest-paid wide receivers in the league. Bengals star Ja’Marr Chase, who earns $40 million per season, is the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.
The Jets selected Wilson 10th overall in their 2022 NFL draft class, which included Sauce Gardner, Jermaine Johnson, and Breece Hall. Since his rookie season, Wilson has played in every game for the Jets.
During that time, Wilson has registered 279 catches for 3,249 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was named 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year after finishing with 83 receptions for 1,103 yards and four touchdowns.
Wilson has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark each of his three seasons in the league despite the Jets’ uneven quarterback play. In Wilson’s first two seasons, he mainly caught passes from Zach Wilson.
Aaron Rodgers was Wilson’s quarterback last season, but the Jets finished with a 5-12 record, which led to the firing of both former coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas. Rodgers was also officially released in March. However, Wilson still finished with a career-high in catches (101), yards (1,104), and touchdowns (seven).
The Jets already had Wilson under contract through the 2026 season after exercising his fifth-year option last April. Now, moving forward, Wilson will be one of the faces of the Jets’ franchise under first-year coach Aaron Glenn.
Since Glenn and Jets General Manager Darren Mougey were hired in January, their goal has been to maintain the Jets’ young talent.
With Wilson’s deal completed, all eyes will turn to Gardner, who many expected to receive a contract extension soon. During mandatory minicamp in June, Gardner said his agents and the Jets have been communicating, and he felt “pretty good” about how the talks have been going.
