KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs’ next opponent was dealt some bad news Wednesday.

Multiple outlets reported that Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels will miss the Commanders’ “Monday Night Football” game against the Chiefs at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

Daniels left the Commanders’ game on Sunday at Dallas because of a hamstring injury and that will keep him out of Monday’s game.

In Daniels’ place will be a quarterback who helped deliver one of the most crushing playoff defeats in Chiefs postseason history: Marcus Mariota.

The Chiefs coughed up an 18-point halftime lead at Arrowhead Stadium and lost, 22-21, to the Tennessee Titans in a Jan. 6, 2018 playoff game. Mariota threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to himself after catching a deflected throw.

That was the last time Mariota started a game at Arrowhead Stadium.

Mariota, who turns 32 on Oct. 30, started two games earlier this season when Daniels was sidelined with a knee injury. Mariota has thrown for 426 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions this season.

The Commanders beat the Raiders but lost to the Falcons in Mariota’s two starts this season.

Daniels was last season’s Offensive Rookie of the Year after throwing for 3,568 yards with 25 touchdown passes and nine interceptions. He also rushed for 891 yards and six touchdowns.

This season, Daniels had thrown for 1,031 yards, eight touchdowns and one interception in five games. He also had rushed for 111 yards.
