Knights squander lead, lose to Kings in shootout in season opener

Right wing Pavel Dorofeyev notched a hat trick in the second period, but the Golden Knights lost 6-5 to the Los Angeles Kings in a shootout Wednesday at T-Mobile Arena.
Center Jack Eichel had a goal and three assists after signing an eight-year, $108 million extension earlier Wednesday. It was his second straight opener with four points.
Right wing Mitch Marner, who made his Knights debut, added two assists. Left wing Ivan Barbashev also scored.
The Knights led 5-3 in the third period but Los Angeles rallied in the final 8:21 with goals by left wing Trevor Moore and defenseman Brandt Clarke to send the game to overtime.
Vegas fell to 7-1-1 in home openers and season openers and had its six-game winning streak in home openers snapped.
